Week Six
After my yellow wallpaper works over summer I decided to finally get to work on my Norman Gilbert Inspired studies -
I started blocking the painting onto one of my homemade canvases made with a wooden board instead of stretched canvas. I thought I would prefer the lack of texture but the wood was far too absorbent :( If I try board again I’ll be sure to add a proper lacquer or finish before the gesso primer
As I was developing the painting I noticed really quickly that my colours started to look muddy and I chose to look at Andrew Cadima’s work as I followed his instagram for some time and know that he can create beautifully clean single colour paintings. I realised that his brightest tone was often the most saturated and decreased in luminosity for the shadows (but as for yellows adding red for warmth prevented the colour becoming muddy)
