Wk 23 - illustrations
When I say Illustrations I don’t mean in the traditional sense but rather just capturing simplified visuals to display narrative in often more commercialised means in order to further my professional practice.
Taking more inspiration from my Vector graphics I made for the water clock I looked at other symbols and how I can go about simplifying for effective imagery. An example of this was laser cutting sheets in order to create jewellery that I can wear or sell - find a video of the laser cut here -

as these are still a work in progress you may see more of this in the future!
Next I looked to commercialising ceramics - something the course doesn’t allow time to develop as by the time you learn to throw a successful item it’s halfway through the semester and many advisors don’t see this important skill as worthwhile so alas I’ll wait until I can find my own time. I did start slab building plates, bowls and jars however and want to invest in drape inserts (in order to build large quantities of plates) but below you can see a paper groggiest porcelain sugar jar inspired by a jar I own from Edinbane Pottery made by Julie Whatley - see third image down for inspiration.
The design on the front is from a piece of carved antler I was gifted from a Shaman in Finland who recognised the shaman symbol in the vein lines of the horn.
In addition to looking into buying my own wheel and (one day) kiln for my own studio I’m in the process of signing up to be a volunteer for DCW where people like Perse Grace Russel built many skills and contacts.
